EUDR

EU Deforestation Regulation

What is EUDR, and why
is it important?

EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation) was published on June 29, 2023. New rules in the regulation will come into effect on December 30, 2025, and affected companies have until then to adapt their organizations.

EUDR is an initiative within the EU's Forest Strategy 2030. The regulation aims to combat global deforestation by prohibiting the sale and export of products that contribute to deforestation. The regulation will affect all companies that import and sell products within the EU linked to deforestation. In Sweden, the Swedish Forest Agency is responsible for implementing the legislation.

ABENA ABs efforts to comply with EUDR:

  • We identify which products and raw materials are covered.
  • We provide the necessary documentation.
  • We have implemented systems for due diligence declarations to ensure traceability, collection of information, and risk assessments.
  • Due diligence declarations will be reported in TRACES,
    the EU information system.
  • We will report annually on our due diligence system and the measures we have taken to comply with the regulation.
  • We will conduct annual audits.

Requirements for suppliers, raw materials, and products covered by EUDR:

  • The regulation imposes stricter requirements to verify the origin of a raw material. Third-party certification is not sufficient.
  • The products must be produced following the applicable legislation in the country of production.
  • The products must be covered by a due diligence declaration, which is submitted in the EU information system, TRACES.
  • Save relevant information and documentation, report annually on the work, and be available for audits.
  • Products covered by the regulation may not be placed, made available on the market, or exported if they are not deforestation-free.
